Review gating is the practice of asking a customer for their rating first and only sending the ones who rate highly to the public review platform, while suppressing low ratings. Google's policy explicitly prohibits review gating, and businesses caught doing it can have their reviews removed and their Google Business Profile penalized. The compliant approach is to ask every customer for a review equally, regardless of their rating, and to respond professionally to any negative feedback.
